Villa La Demeure - The Residence
Audio guide in English
Address: 57 Avenue de l'Ile Verte Saint-Raphaël
Year built: 1889
Sponsor: Marie Cealis
Architect: Joseph Ravel
The villa was originally called Les Abeilles. It is the property of Madame Céalis who also owned the villa Les Grillons. The medalist Oscar Roty acquired it in 1905 before the painter André de Soigney moved there in 1922. An American, Eléonore Callistri, became the owner in 1932. Different owners followed.
If the villa has undergone some transformations over time, the initial turret is still present. Its Anglo-Norman character is revealed through its wooden porch, its braces under the windows, its armpits under the eaves. The balcony rests on consoles with volutes; its railing, pierced with openings in the shape of horseshoe arches, is unique to Saint-Raphaël.
In the garden was found a ceramic kiln which would have been used for the manufacture of earthenware tiles, like the one embedded in the fence pillar, representing a beehive. Hence the original name of the villa.
