VILLA MAY
Audio guide in English
Address: 1692 route de la Corniche
Sponsor: Jacques Robert
Architect: François-Adolphe Bocage
Date: 1910
In 1910, Jacques and Marie-Alexandrine Robert called on the Parisian architect, François-Adolphe Bocage to create plans for their villa May in the style of Louis XV neoclassicism. It remained in the family until 1957. The Iranian Minister of Justice then in exile stayed there in 1980.
In the heart of a magnificent park planted with different varieties of palm trees, cycads and Lambert cypresses, the villa overlooks the shore. On the facade, in line with the semi-circular entrance, an opening topped by a pediment reveals a dome. It houses the staircase leading to the flat roof, lined with Tuscan balusters. To the south, astonishing decorative urns surrounded by a plant crown make up the terrace. The caretaker's house draws its architectural style from the cottages of Marie Antoinette's hamlet at the Petit Trianon in Versailles.
Winner of the facade competition of the city of Paris in 1902, we can see some of Bocage's creations, 36 rue de Fleurus, 270 rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, 205 rue Marcadet in Paris.
