crushing plant
Audio guide in English
THE CRUSHER PLANT HAS BEEN EXISTING SINCE 1880. A CRUSHER IS A MACHINE DESIGNED TO REDUCE LARGE ROCKS INTO SMALL STONES, GRAVEL, OR ROCK DUST.
The buildings were installed on earthwork in
the lower and upper rock, against a wall of
support. They had a steam engine with
its sheet metal chimney 20 meters high, allowing the
operation of the two crushers, an elevator,
pneumatic drills and the towing of wagons.
The plant was located between the two main quarries and
opposite the station. A lift, also called an easel, built
circa 1900 was used to reassemble loaded wagons
to the level of the crusher where they were brought pulled
by horses or pushed by workmen.
An inclined plane made it possible to bring the trolleys
by towing. The plant will undergo modifications and
expansions according to the evolution of industrial progress
and techniques.
