IN FEBRUARY 1883 THE CREATION OF THE SAINT-RAPHAËL PORPHYRY QUARRY LIMITED COMPANY IS OFFICIALIZED.
THE MAIN HEAD OFFICE IS IN SAINT-RAPHAËL, THE ADMINISTRATIVE HEAD OFFICE IS IN BRUSSELS.
The total area of the company is 40 hectares.
It then has all the equipment and accessories
necessary for the operation of the operation. All
real estate values are transformed into shares
shared between 15 shareholders, including the mayor at the time
Felix Martin. Belgian shareholders come from the region
Hainaut and Brussels, the French mainly
of Paris and its surroundings.
In 1899, 710 workers worked on the Dramont site,
mostly Italian.
Annual production is 3,300,000 pavers, i.e. a
daily production of 10,580 pavers. The pad for
the pavement of the streets, and the ballast for the support of the
railways, represent the bulk of production.
The range is wide: the company offers 42 models of
pavers. But gradually, the pavement disappears in favor of
stones and gravels of different sizes that will make up
the structure of new pavements.
After the Second World War, society experienced a
renewed activity due to reconstruction work
necessary roads and railways. But
gradually, the arrival of macadam and concrete
leads to a drop in production. Activity ceases
definitively in 1959. Some workers will be
reemployed at the neighboring quarry, Caous, still in
activity. In 1967 the company sold land to HLM
to build family homes.
Then she sold her land capital in 1982, for the creation
of the current holiday village.
