Audio guide in English
AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF THE MEDITERRANEAN COAST, ILE D’OR IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VILLAGE OF DRAMONT.
THE SEMAPHORE IS THE OLDEST BUILDING IN THE DISTRICT.
Many quarrymen were hired for the
building the tower. Water, sand, cement,
steel beams were transported from the coast, while
that the stones were extracted from a quarry on the Island.
The tower is 18 meters high, with a right-of-way
floor of 8 meters by 8. It has four floors. THE
families of quarrymen liked to spend some time there
friends.
In 1962, the Bureau family bought the Île d'Or and
some work. A flag indicates their presence on
the Island.
The Semaphore is the first known construction in
Dramont: a watchtower already existed in the 16th century.
Then, in 1861, a building was built attached to the tower
to accommodate staff and their families, the only inhabitants
du Dramont before quarrying.
The Semaphore came into operation in 1862.
Hard hit during the Second World War, it was renovated
and reactivated in 1964.
The semaphores of Cap de la Garoupe, Cap Dramont
and Cap Camarat are 15 miles apart
nautical. Surveillance at sea is carried out over 12 miles
nautical (22 km).
